A long time ago a group of fresh faced boys and girls wandered sheepishly through the gates of Harrytown RC High School in Romiley, Stockport.
The year was 1982. Survivor were riding high in the charts with 'Eye of the Tiger' and Musical Youth were passing the Dutchie, Princess Diana had just given birth to 'Will's', ET and Poltergeist were packing them in at the cinema's, Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister, Ingrid Bergman was finally 'alone', Italy had won the World Cup, Britain finally got a fourth TV channel and the Queen woke up one morning to find Michael Fagan sitting on the end of her bed.
Crazy, crazy times...
If all that wasn't bad enough, Russia and America were waving nuclear missiles at one another with such abandon that you had to watch the news every night just to check the world hadn't ended.
No wonder those boys and girls looked so sheepish.
Five years later they left Harrytown. Some for college, some for the armed forces, some for jobs and others for who knows what. Some kept in touch, most did not and in the wink of an eye two whole decades had rolled by.
Those boys and girls are not boys and girls anymore. They are teachers and sailors, butchers and bakers and candlestick makers (probably) and many of them have children of their own now, some have moved away from Stockport, some have moved away from England altogether - and that is where you can help...
Take a look at the pictures on the right. Go on. Have a really good look. Is that you? Or do you know one of those faces? If so we really want to hear from you.
Why?
Well, through the magic of things like Facebook and Friends Reunited quite a few of the members of the Harrytown class of 82-87 are back in touch - and we are planning a party!
On 3rd October 2009 all of those boys and girls who tentatively made their way through those gates twenty seven years ago, are cordially invited to meet up with their old classmates for the prom we never had.
Sixty of us have already got our tickets for what promises to be a great night.
Take another look at those face's - really, really close. Is that you - or - do you know one of them? If you are or do, drop us a line at: htown8287@live.co.uk or visit the website.
